Privacy
Jour is a weather app, not a data business. This page explains the little that leaves your phone, and why.

No account
You never sign up. There is nothing to log in to and nothing to delete.
No ads, no tracking
No advertising, no analytics, and nothing that follows you across other apps or websites.
Location for the forecast only
Where you are is used to fetch the weather there, at that moment, and for nothing else.
Payments stay with Apple
Apple handles every purchase. We never see your card or bank details.
1. Who is responsible
The controller for the processing described here is:
Hinrich BomsdorfMainaustrasse 27
8008 Zürich
Switzerland
hinrichbomsdorf@gmail.com
2. What stays on your phone
Your name and profile picture, the cities you add, your settings (units, sky and forecast source) and the last forecast for each place are stored only on your device, and shared only with Jour's own widgets and Apple Watch app. They are not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes them.
Choosing a profile picture uses the system photo picker. Jour only receives the one photo you pick, makes a small copy of it on your phone, and never uploads it.
3. Fetching the weather
To show a forecast, Jour has to ask a weather service for it. Jour has no server of its own: your phone asks these services directly.
Your location
If you allow it, Jour reads your location while you use the app, and its widgets and Apple Watch app read it when they refresh. The coordinates are sent with each request below, to get the weather for that spot. They are not stored by us, and nothing else is sent with them that identifies you. If you do not allow location, Jour works with the cities you add instead.
- Forecast, air quality and city search: Open-Meteo (Switzerland) receives the coordinates of the place, or the name you type when you search for a city.
- Weather warnings: in Europe, Jour downloads the national warnings feed of your country from MeteoAlarm and checks on your phone which warnings cover where you are, so no location is sent. In the United States, the coordinates are sent to the National Weather Service.
- Place names and the map: the name of the town you are in and the map under the radar come from Apple, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Rain radar (Jour Pro): the radar images for the part of the map on screen come from RainViewer.
Each of these services receives your IP address as a technical necessity of the connection. Purpose and legal basis: to show you the weather you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. Buying Jour Pro
All purchases are made through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's privacy policy. We never receive your payment details.
To check whether you have Jour Pro, and to restore it on a new phone, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) as a processor. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID created by the app, the purchase receipts Apple issues for Jour, the app version, your device model and system version, and the App Store country. Your IP address is transmitted as a technical necessity of the connection. Purpose and legal basis: to provide what you bought (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Where data is transferred to the United States, this happens under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long: purchase records are kept for as long as you might restore a purchase, and as required by tax and commercial law.
5. This website
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. When you visit it, the server records technical information such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and your browser, to deliver the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are deleted after a short period. The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no fonts, scripts or images from anybody else.
6. Children
Jour has no accounts, no chat and no public profiles, and collects nothing from children beyond what is described above.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access your data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16), deleted (Art. 17) or restricted (Art. 18), to receive it in a portable format (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Because Jour has no accounts and no server of its own, we hold nothing about you beyond the purchase records described above. Write to us and we will help.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one where you live. If you live in Switzerland, the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) gives you the same rights, and you can complain to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
8. Changes
If the app starts doing something new with your data, this page will say so before it does. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
